Following a cycling accident in New York City, Tom began experiencing anxiety attacks and episodes where he would lose control of his speech and motor skills. When the episodes became more frequent, he sought medical treatment. The seizures were diagnosed as a form of epilepsy caused by brain trauma during his accident.  Medications are now keeping the seizures under control and Tom is exploring his new life a member of the epilepsy and seizure community. He notes that one of his favorite writers – Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, who penned Crime and Punishment – was also a person with epilepsy and often wrote about his experiences.

Tom is appreciative to have Dr. Nadia Sotudeh as his neurologist.
